Easy Peasy Halloween Quilt

This quilt is so easy to make, and could be just as much fun without the cat applique blocks.

There are instructions for cutting the squares, joining the blocks (squares) into rows, putting the rows of the quilt together, and the fabric requirements for a 47 inch square halloween quilt.

Easy Peasy and fast as well!

Many variations can be achieved with this simple design, simply by altering the placement of the dark fabrics and the light ones.

I flipped some of the applique to make the blocks rotate around the quilt.

You could make the quilt with no applique blocks or use quilt block panels.

on monster fabric

You can make the cat blocks really stand out, like the centre block in the quilt, or make them mysterious and spooky like the 'hidden' cats.

Kids will especially like to find the 'scary' stuff hiding in the quilt.

1. Cut squares of fabric, with seam allowances added.
2. For 9 inch finished squares, cut at 9½ inches.
3. Sew together with ¼ inch seams.
4. Press to the darker fabric.
5. Sew rows, then sew rows together.
6. Finally add a border (as wide as you like).

Cut squares at 9½ inches in the fabrics you have chosen for your quilt.

I cut:

• 8 blue and black cat fabric
• 4 haunted house fabric for the corners
• 4 monster fabric for cat blocks
• 4 skeleton fabric
• 4 spider fabric
• 1 green dot for the centre black cat

Substitute your own fabric choices

• 3/8 yard haunted house fabirc
• 3/8 yard spider fabric
• 3/8 yard monster fabric
• 5/8 yard blue and black cat fabric
• 3/8 yard skeleton fabric
• 3/8 yard border fabric
• 3/8 yard green spot fabric
• 1/4 yard black fabric for the cats if you are appliqueing
• 1/8 yard broom fabric
• Scraps of green fabric for the cats' eyes, and broom handles

Fat quarters are a great way to get a selection of fabrics that would be beautiful together or mixed with other choices.

Each fat quarter is cut from a half yard (or metre) of fabic, which is then cut into two roughly square pieces. Half of half a yard = one fat quarter.

As you sew each block to the next, press towards the darker of the two fabrics.
